Collection: Jin Xianglong

Born in 1956 in Hangtou, a water town in Shanghai, China, Jin Xianglong has been passionate about painting since childhood. He began art training at the age of 18 , and as a young man, he spent four years in the military in remote Yunnan, honing his artistic talents. In 1981 , he traveled north to further his studies, attending the Central Academy of Fine Arts and the PLA Academy of Art, where he studied printmaking and ink painting. In 1990 , he returned to Yunnan to delve into the unique technique of multi-color woodcuts. Three years later, he returned to his hometown and became the first printmaker in Shanghai to master this technique.

Border village charm, urban rhythms, Jiangnan water towns, flora and flowers, and travel scenery are the main themes in Jin Xianglong's brushwork. In addition to woodcuts, he also creates ink paintings and porcelain paintings.

After half a century of dedicated artistic pursuits, he has won numerous art awards, including the 1999 Lu Xun Printmaking Award, the "Oscar" of Chinese printmaking. In 2003 , he traveled to France for an exchange at the Chaville Printmaking Studio. In 2018 , he established the Pudong Printmaking Base in Hangtou, Shanghai. His works are collected by major art museums across China, including the Boston University Library. In 2021 , the China Art Palace (Shanghai Art Museum) acquired 79 of his prints.

He is currently a member of the Chinese Artists Association, and has served as a director of the Shanghai Artists Association and deputy director of the Printmaking Art Committee of the Shanghai Artists Association.
